Sustainability

Meeting current human needs without compromising the needs of future generations.

Collaborative Solutions

Society is faced with the challenge of providing for the basic needs of a global population projected to reach 8-10 billion individuals by 2050. Ecological knowledge is an important part of creating a sustainable society. Interdisciplinary collaboration between biophysical and social scientists is creating the tools necessary to successfully integrate ecological knowledge into decision making processes.

The concept of ecosystem services has been instrumental in linking the needs of society within the constraints of its supporting ecosystem.

Through collaboration with biophysical and social scientists, my research goals are guided by the premise that humans must live within the productive and regenerative capacity of their supporting ecosystems. My ecological research quantifies our ability to responsibly manage ecosystem services.
